64 Columns

C P Aboobaker

Chess board has 64 columns. Independent India can be compared to it, 64 years beginning with 1947-48 to present India 2011-12. Yeah, 64 years with an amazingly developed and developing technology and culture. In column D1 and E1 sat the Prime Minister and the President with their serious smile in 1947-48. A handsome Prime Minister and a very serious President. In H8 the present Prime Minister of India is standing disturbed after his sinister designs are being disclosed.

India has passed through extra decent politics like nonalignment and its determination to adopt Socialism and secularism as the key words that would decide the future of her democracy. After Jawaharlal and Shasthry the leaders of the republic gradually adopted an erroneous path, Indira Gandhi the path of autocracy while from Rajiv Gandhi on wards it is the path of abject surrender of the will of the people to the dictates of American Imperialism.

If this is the case of the central governance, far flimsy, but dangerous is the way the state governments behave. If it is the BJP Govt of Narendra Modi or the OOmmenchandy Govt of Kerala, it is either rampant corruption or or very cruel communalism.

We feel it is high time for every Indian to introspect himself/herself. Does secularism remain the same as it was before? Does socialism in India remain as it was before? For example, during the days when the Congress Socialist Party was organized, the two ideas of socialism and secularism were part of Indian political respiration.

We need not name every corruption here.

The fact is that India has turned out to be a republic of corruption.

Shame upon my self that I am part of this kind of a society. I have always been proud of a society with more than five thousand years of cultural continuity and social evolution. Sure, it has had its deficiencies, but they were mere deficiencies. The present situation is that corruption. Communalism and castes are legitimized. With these three Cs, we are almost completing our surrender to the Imperialist designs.

Imperialism began to extend its tentacles around Five and a half century ago at Calicut the southern port of India and the Head Quarters of the Zomerin Empire. Thence spread the western tentacles to other countries of Asia, Africa and even America. The West Asian countries which had had a great legacy of culture and civilization are bludgeoned into molten pots of bloody wars and nefarious human killing by US Imperialism and its allies. And through West Asia, it is reported that Imperialism is again at the doorsteps of India. It is quite an irony of for the Indian people , although a very sadistic one.

So, corruption and abject surrender to Imperialism are great menaces to our country, while the finance capital is tightening its grips by gathering illicit concessions from the central and state governments . Allotment of mining rights in the Godavary region has cost the nation more than two lakh crores of rupees, an unimaginable sum.

This is the latest example of corruption that is haunting We, The People.

So before the 64 columns, we are at a loss. We may have Anand and Tania Sachdev, but we lack the political will to be ourselves. 64 years is a large period. If we are not ready to mend and correct ourselves, we are doomed as a nation. Mubarak Sahni alone is not the ruler to be sent to the docks.
