Caudate Memory
Christina Pacosz
The ballerina was a beautiful creature
suspended on her toes
in layers and layers
of frothy tulle
But the monkey mother
was so shameful
there was no costume
that could redeem her
She’d birthed a baby
with a tail
Such a scandal
A blessing the throwback
died the neighborhood
gossips whispered
on the lawn chairs
my mother had set up
outside
