Headless Doll*

Hamza Hassan Sheikh

    Watch me, behold me
    I am a headless doll
    So fragile and cute.
    But my cruel master
    Did not care about me
He never slapped or rebuked me
But hit me with a missile
    Five times bigger than me.
    My body was parched
    I lost my head
With golden hairs and black eyes
Now my master denies recognizing me
As my identity is lost with my head
Now me titled as a headless doll
A new name and a new identity.

*(Dedicated to the dolls of Gaza)
