Walter, Sophia and Amelia, too

Christina Pacosz

    The pair of them
    with her, their child
    that day before
    all others
    The first day
    Walking through the green tunnel
    Eden of summer
    Shallow pool
    Blue tiles slippery
    underfoot

    Bending toward her
    beneficent planets
    to her tiny moon
    in unison they lift
    her up
    A song only they
    can sing

    A half century later
    she reads how
    Amelia Earhart
    navigated solo
    across the dark Atlantic
    by the stars

and she flies across the water
