The Thorny Fence

Aparna Vasudevan

The thorny fence coiled around my heart-
    Shattered by your sight.
Like the strings of your guitar ruptured,
With your long sharp finger nails.
My eyes blazed in the visual treat of beauties
That seemed mere pictures of shadows.
    In that vigorous agony,
Why you alone became my sip of breath?
I am submitting my love at the altar
Let this infinite pain melt in myself
And get transformed to blood & fluids.
If this love is a jagged arrow, let it pierce into my nerves,
Deriving the first rhythm from my anguish!
I tried, I tried and I tried hard...
Still deep inside, that marigold didn t vanish
