Moon’s tears

Arunansu Banerjee

Take your aim, pull the trigger slow
    bombard the moon

It only adds a dimple; the moon glows
brightly as ever, with just one extra crater

Half the size of a regular swimming pool, smaller
than the bruises made by eccentric comets

For centuries, she smiles like an autistic child,
gifts diamond rings borrowed from the sun

Satellites examine her scarred face, the rupes
and the maria, for traces of frozen tears.
