An Autumn, 3000 years old
Arunansu Banerjee
rawboned Tutankhamun:
blackened face, teeth, jutting out-
biting into memories, hardened skin
chapped by eon old fungi
hollow of eyeballs: craters dug deep
in earth’s epidermis
inert remains embalmed, encased in gold,
guarded by Anubis
funerary bouquets: lilies, roses, lotuses
sans fragrance and hues, dwell with Ka
a breeze moans through a once-verdant
meadow
