When splendour sets

Mary Annie

    To the years
    of flamboyant beauty
    of endless romance
    the courtship
    I hold my head high.
    To the pride of life
    the ways we have treaded
    the lessons the laughter
    the burden the tears
    I hold my head high.
    To the times
    I was loved enviously
    lived to propagate the race
    the wisdom of it all
    I hold my head high.
    To the nothingness of life
    the wonder of it all
    to the broken roads
    unmended
    I hold my head high.
To the life we were given
    the life we led
    the life we lead
    the life to come
    I hold my head high.
    To the vanity of life
    the lack of splendour
    the emptiness
    the will to exist
    I hold my head high.
    When you see me now
    old and broken
    emptied and crushed
    remember
I have moved a full circle.
I am holding my head high
    spreading out my talents
leaving the show to the living
    taking it slow for now
and waiting quietly for the dawn!
